Do It Now |
||
|
We all know Doers. They have mottos like, "Do it now" or "Make it Happen." They are efficient, organized and are great at juggling many balls. The names of Doers are well known: Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie. Doers get things done. They also have little patience for Dreamers who they perceive offer little value. "Let's get started" and "No time like the present" are their attitudes though more likely they just do without even stopping to think up a slogan. Without a doubt every team needs a Doer, or better yet, lots of Doers. They need Doers at the top leadership positions and as the executive assistants. Though be careful not to confuse Doers with Administrators. They are both action oriented. Doers though are fklexible and can work toward change. Administrators are just as action driven though more in keeping with a process. Administrators make better Project Managers. Use your Doers wisely and in roles where change is needed. Doers make great negotiators and trouble shooters. In the parlance of Myers-Briggs Doers are SPs. Doers prefer to gather data through "Sensing" rather than "iNtuitively." Sensors want literal answers to specific questions. "The facts, Ma'am. Nothing but the facts." The second letter represents how the person relates to the outside world, in particular which function is more natural -- information gathering or decision making. This is the distinction between the Doers and the Administrators. The Doers are "Perceivers" rather than "Judgers." Doers rely more on data gathering than decision making. Doers are associated with words like flexible, spontaneous, adaptive and responsive. In contrast an Administrator is associated with words like structured, ordered, controlled, and deliberate.
As you build a team for making a change, it is obvious that you need a Doer. Make sure you get the right Doer.
The Administrator who is just as action oriented, will not be comfortable with the uncharted waters of impacting a new change.
Build your team with Dreamers, Planners and Doers and you will see success.

Inspiration to Do It Now"Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb." Sir Winston Churchill |
