What Is Set Sail?

Set Sail for Success is a book and it is a process - a process for change. For those who have a great dream or desire to be more than they already are, Set Sail’s process is designed to get one from one state to a new state.

The process is grown from the works of David Keirsey who based his works on Myers-Briggs, who based their work on Carl Jung. Carl Jung noticed that every body has a natural personality about him that he will feel more comfortable in being. Myers-Briggs classified people into 16 personality types. People’s personality can be defined by where one sits on four linear continuums. For example, people will fall somewhere along a continuum between being and introvert and an extrovert. David Keirsey consolidated the 16 types into four temperaments. He has very detailed descriptions of each of these temperaments. I read his descriptions and re-labeled them just for ease of a cleaner description.

I call his four temperaments: Dreamers, Planners, Doers and Administrators. Of these temperaments the administrators are the largest and are almost half the population. These people are very good with process, order, rules and like the saying, “If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.” These people by their nature are not comfortable with change.

The other three temperaments can be comfortable with change. The challenge though is that change needs all three to working together to happen. The choice is that you build a team with members of each temperament or you stretch yourself out of your comfort zone and you fill the roll of each.

Once you have created the change then you can pass it along to that solid group who will keep the new process working. Set Sail is a process: Start with a great dream, make a detailed plan for its implementation, take action and perform each step, and then finally pass the change to the keeper who will stabilize it.

This process is the hidden message in Set Sail for Success. It looks on the surface as a fun to read gift book of quotations. Now read the book and see within the order of these particular quotations the Set Sail process.
